October 2005

Early in the month on a fairly dull day I got the chance to get some shots of herring and great black-backed gulls, if only the light had been better.

In much nicer light I spent some time with some common species at Titchwell, finally getting some decent pics of ringed plover and knot.

The wader numbers have been decreasing throughout the month, but as this has happened the wildfowl have been returning. Spent quite some time with the ducks and am looking forward to going for the geese over the next couple of months.

However the highlight of the came right at the end. Having spent a morning at Titchwell 'chasing' water rail, with only one blurred shot to show for it, I decided to give up and spend some time with some of the easier species. After about 30mins of photographing waders a water rail wandered out amongst the cut reeds, and thankfully stayed on view long enough for me to get some reasonable shots of it.
