November 2005

The month started well with a couple of very successful trips to Titchwell, the water rail again performed well just in front of Parrinder hide, as did a spotted redshank. A jack snipe took up residence in the cut reeds for a couple of weeks and was normally joined by a number of common snipe.

Mid-month I went to Welney for the first time this winter, it was a joy to see the large numbers of swans that were already there.

Later in the month I paid a visit to the Lodge in Sandy, I was lucky enough to find a very obliging flock of thrushes, who posed for about 20 mins before a sparrowhawk came over and sent them into hiding.

We normally see jays in the garden once every couple of months, but in the last week we've had two regularly coming in to feed.
